INAUGURAL WRITER-IN-RESIDENCE POSITION

1906 Group, parent company of The Art of Building, is excited to expand the program’s scope to include storytelling in the written word with the launch of its inaugural Writer-in-Residence position.

1906 Group was founded in 1906 and is a privately-held asset creation company in the real estate development, asset management, design, engineering and construction sectors.  Through partnership and investments, 1906 Group is proud to deliver the physical assets in which Americans live, work and play.  (Click here to learn more about 1906 Group.)

The inaugural Writer-in-Residence will spend a year, telling the story of 1906 Group’s assets, focusing on Clark Construction, one of 1906 Group’s operating companies.  We seek to use storytelling as a means to communicate who we are, what we do, our values, our history, our cultural relevance and our role in society today.  We are interested in telling the stories of the men and women who bring the built environment to reality.

In addition to writing about 1906 Group’s operating companies, the Writer-in-Residence will tell the story of some of the company’s other assets including commercial and residential real estate.  The Writer-in-Residence will also help 1906 Group set the tone and style for other communications.

To tell the story of Clark Construction, we envision the Writer-in-Residence travelling to company offices, construction jobsites and manufacturing facilities across the United States.  The Writer-in-Residence will have access to the company’s managers, craftworkers, designers, trade partners and community.

As a full-time employee, the Writer-in-Residence will be paid an annual salary of ~$80K+, competitive benefits, and travel/temporary housing expense reimbursement.  At the conclusion of the Writer-in-Residence’s employment, 1906 Group will host an event to celebrate and highlight your work.

Eligibility:

The 1906 Group Writer-in-Residence must prove eligibility to legally work in the United States as a W2 employee and have completed a master’s degree in a relevant area.  Most importantly, the selected candidate must share our passion for the built environment and the men and women who make it happen.

Selection Process:

Interested applicants must submit a one-page Statement of Interest, a writing sample, a resume, a list of published materials and two professional references.  In addition, semi-finalists will be asked to respond to a writing prompt and in-person interviews will be required of all finalists.
